IQL RESdome
Project Overview
As part of the wider IQL masterplan, the RESdome initiative at Stratford Cross, adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, provides essential habitats and food sources for a diverse range of insects. This innovative space also serves as an outdoor educational hub, where schools and the public can learn about insect ecosystems and their importance in our environment. The lighting system was thoughtfully designed to respect the primary inhabitants and minimize any negative impacts. By aligning with the insects' natural biological rhythms, the dome is illuminated with red and deep amber lighting - wavelengths that insects are less sensitive to or cannot perceive. This ensures their well-being while maintaining a serene atmosphere. During the day, the sunlight passing through the dichroic hexagonal windows creates a vibrant display of colours, transforming the dome into a soothing, almost meditative space. The careful balance between light and nature creates a calming, sensory experience, encouraging both learning and relaxation.
